From the Early Years' Foundation Stage to Year 6 every pupil at Harenc receives the opportunity to develop their ICT capabilities in our modern ICT suite.
Each class is time-tabled to receive one hour of tuition per week. In the early years emphasis is placed on basic keyboard and mouse control skills, recognising and locating letters on the keyboard and children are able to experience a variety of programs. Pupils then progress to word processing skills and learn how to paste pictures onto their work. They are encouraged to store, retrieve, scan and print their work independently.
As pupils progress through the school they are introduced to information handling where they sort and classify information. Initially this is by a very simple criterion, progressing to more complex tasks in the upper Juniors. Understanding direction, distance and rotation is encouraged by the use of a "Roamer", a floor robot, and then "Logo" a software program extends their skills further. Adventure programs in which children are encouraged to solve a variety of problems are also used.
Pupils are regularly given opportunities to research information from CD ROM multi-media encyclopaedia/reference type programs and to take advantage of education provision via teacher-directed use of the internet.
Interactive whiteboards enhance the delivery of the curriculum in classrooms.
