PE is about developing skills and confidence in physical activity and introducing children to the pleasures of sport.
At Harenc we aim to promote this enjoyment through a wide range of activities and at the same time to foster co-operation, tolerance and self-esteem through participation in team games.
Throughout their years at Harenc, the boys will have lessons in the following sports:
- Games, including football, rugby and cricket
- Swimming
- Athletics
- Gymnastics
- Keep Fit
- Rounders
- Outdoor/adventure activities
From Prep 1 (Reception) through to J4 (Year 6) the boys have weekly swimming lessons with a qualified swimming coach. The school participates regularly in Galas with other schools and has gained many awards in both regional and national competitions.
The Junior boys have weekly games' lessons where they are taught the skills of football, rugby, hockey, cricket, rounders and athletics. Once again, there is a full programme of fixtures arranged against other local schools and our fully qualified football and rugby coaches enhance our provision.
A highlight of the Summer term is the school Sports Day. Whilst there is an emphasis on athleticism, every child has the opportunity to compete in fun events and win medals and points for their House. Our four Houses are named after local castles - Dover, Bodiam, Chilham and Scotney. The Early Years' Foundation Stage boys enjoy their own event.
Durintg their time at Harenc the boys spend a week at an accredited activity centre where they are able to experience more adventurous pursuits, testing their nerve and building confidence and co-operation.
The Prep Football Club is very popular with the younger boys.
Rugby or football training is given after school and during the Summer there is after-school cricket practice using the facilities of the Sidcup Cricket Club.
